From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1972: Fifty Years Ago: Censorship to go

KARACHI: The Education Minister, Mr Hafiz Pirzada, announced in a Radio and T.V. speech last night [July 18] that the Governor has decided to lift the news censorship from July 22. He also disclosed that the President has summoned the Finance Minister, Dr Mubashir Hasan, to reach Karachi and survey the affected areas for working out relief measures.

Mr Pirzada said the substance of the Ordinance seeking to amend the Sind Language Bill has been announced by the President and “there is no dispute on that”. Only minor things remain to be settled for which negotiations are going on, he said. It has also been decided that relief committees should be formed to assess the losses during the recent riots and make recommendations for compensation to those affected in Sind. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Karachi,] President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto said … that the successful implementation of the language formula will depend upon the good faith and brotherly co-operation between various sections of the people in the Sindh province. “I am personally responsible for its implementation,” the President told a group of citizens of Karachi… .
