‘All sectors performed exceptionally well under PTI regime’

• Imran calls on people to come out in large numbers on July 2
• Reiterates his govt ousted under US-backed conspiracy

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said all sectors were performing exceptionally well and 5.5 million jobs had been provided during the tenure of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

He also called on people to come out in large numbers on July 2 and participate in the protest to be staged on Parade Ground in Islamabad.

Speaking at the PTI workers’ convention, Mr Khan said the economic survey released by the current government had clearly indicated that during PTI’s tenure, all sectors were performing well.

IT exports had increased by 70pc and 5.5 million jobs were provided while agriculture and industries witnessed record production during his tenure, he said.

The PTI chief said his party did not shift the burden on to the people despite the International Monetary Fund’s pressure whereas the present government had opened a floodgate of inflation, with prices skyrocketing and the economy dwindling fast. The ‘imported government’ has raised prices of electricity, petrol, diesel and gas enormously, multiplying the miseries of the people, he added.

About the protest, Mr Khan urged people to shun fear and come out in large numbers to register their protest against “thieves and get rid of slavery once and for all”.

The PTI would hold a historic public gathering on July 2 and people should participate, not for him but for their future generation as it was their collective responsibility, he added.

The former prime minister said his government was ousted by local abettors under a US-backed conspiracy to impose “established and certified thieves who had been plundering the country for the last 30 years”. He alleged that the US had brought thieves to promote its interests, adding that bowing down to oppression was no answer to the problems.

“These thieves conspired against the well-performing PTI government to get relief in corruption cases worth billions. It can be judged from the fact that these crooked people instantly got rid of Rs1,100 billion worth of corruption cases soon after seizing power,” he said.

The PTI chairman said [Prime Minister] Shehbaz Sharif and his son alone were facing corruption cases amounting to Rs24bn, adding that ‘thieves’ could not hold themselves accountable, which was why they brought NAB and the FIA under their control.
