Rs34bn allocated for subsidised flour: minister

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food Atif Khan has said that the provincial government would spend Rs34 billion on subsidised flour during the upcoming financial year.

He said that the provincial government had enhanced wheat procurement from 1.1 million to 1.4 million metric tons (MT) for the new financial year.

The minister expressed these views during a joint press conference with special assistant to the chief minister for information and public relations Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif and MPA Zahir Shah Toru on Thursday.

“Compared to last year, subsidised 20kg flour bag at the rate of Rs1,100 in KP has been reduced to Rs980 per bag and that of 10kg bag from Rs550 to Rs490 this year,” he said.

Atif Khan said the KP government had also allocated Rs26 billion for providing Insaf Food Card to one million poor families of the province, which would be started next month.
