RUTHLESS TREND

There is no dearth of videos showing cows being lifted through cranes to rooftops. The practice may appear unusual, but it is common in Karachi. Such practices should be stopped as this is not what the spirit of Eidul Azha is. One should understand the real meaning of sacrifice. It is the sacrifice of the inner beast that is the main target. The authorities concerned and animal rights organisations should take notice of such practices.

QUENCHING THIRST: The residents of Dumb, a union council in Hoshab tehsil of Kech district, are suffering due to lack of basic facilities, like clean drinking water, education and health. It is a shame that the authorities concerned have failed to provide these facilities that are basically considered birthrights of citizens in most countries. Being a local, I know how people, especially women, have to walk miles to simply fetch water. Those who could afford have already migrated and settled elsewhere. The rest of us have no option but to stay and face the challenges.

RAILWAY STATION: The platform of Malir Cantt Railway Station has been neglected for many years. As a result, it is in a dilapidated condition and needs immediate repairs. The authorities should initiate the repair work without delay.

MISPLACED REMARKS: This refers to the remarks passed by former chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to the effect that the concept of the state of Madina was misplaced as there was no school, college, hospital, road or bank at the time. The comments themselves are seriously misplaced. He should know that the core of any civilisation is its spiritual principles. The state of Madina was founded on the principles of equality, unity, justice, morality and quest for knowledge. As long as these principles are alive, the model continues to be relevant.
