AN IMPRACTICAL IDEA

Serving one dish at wedding functions is not a prudent step. It was introduced earlier as well and had failed to make an impact. The idea limits the basic right of the people to celebrate marriages as per their liking, and choosing a menu they deem perfect. If the government genuinely believes in ‘equality’, the use of luxury cars, foreign travel and elitist schools should also be brought under similar control.

A MATTER OF SALT: The unnecessary intake of salt, like that of sugar, can be detrimental to health. Controlling sugar intake is easy because there are alternatives available in the market, but it is difficult to find an alternative to salt. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a possible alternative that can be used as a food ingredient, but it is not available

in the country under certain regulations. In the light of some research over the years, the government in Pakistan would do well to reconsider the said regulation.

WORKING DAYS: The decision to cut down working days is a step in the right direction, and will likely turn into substantial savings. All that is needed to be done now is to make the public sector more efficient in terms of time and work management. It would be a massive contribution of the government as it will help use our resources prudently.

UNJUST FARES: With a sudden boom in petroleum prices, fares of local transport have skyrocketed, too. Along with that, the behaviour of conductors seems to have gone well beyond the acceptable limits. If passengers are unaware of the new fares, they have to face severe humiliation at the hands of the transport staff. In most cases, the fares have been revised unfairly, based on whim and fancy. The local administration should come out of its deep slumber and take notice of what is happening on the ground.
