LAHORE: The Pakistan Volleyball Federation is looking at holding the inaugural edition of its Super League in December, its chairman Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob said here on Tuesday.
With the PVF inking a year-long sponsorship deal with Engro Corporation, Yaqoob said that the Super Leagie would be a “game-changer” for the sport in the country.
“Not only would it provide players an opportunity to earn more money, it would also allow them to play with foreign players.” Yaqoob said.
Currently ranked eighth in Asia and 39th in the world, Yaqoob said that the PVF was eyeing qualification to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“The sponsorship deal would allow us to feature in international events which are crucial for Olympic qualification,” he added, with Pakistan to take part in the Islamic Games, Asia Cup and a tournament in Dubai this year.
“We have many talented players with several of them plying their trade in international leagues. We’re trying our level best to provide them with the facilities here to hone their skills. With this deal, it would also be possible to train coaches which in turn will benefit the players.”
