KOHAT, Dec 10: The authorities have constituted a high-level committee to settle a land dispute and demarcate the boundary between the tribal Orakzai Agency and Kohat district on the expiry of an ultimatum given by the Bangash tribe.
The Bangash tribe had threatened to start an armed struggle if the Bizot tribe of Orakzai Agency did not vacate, within a week’s time, the territory occupied by it in 1971. The warning was given by the Mohammadzai union council nazim, Noor Mohammad Bangash, last Saturday.
According to an accord reached between the two warring tribes, the district coordination officer in Kohat, assistant political agent in lower Orakzai Agency and district revenue officer, as well as seven members from each tribe, would visit the disputed area and demarcate it according to the land record and court decisions on Wednesday.
The DCO said the levies check-post would be removed from the disputed land if it came within the jurisdiction of Kohat district following demarcation of the boundary. Consequently, a police post would be established there, he said.
The meeting was attended by District Nazim Seth Gohar Saifullah Khan, Mohammadzai Nazim Seth Noor Mohammad Bangash, DCO Arshad Majeed Momand, Orakzai Agency’s Political Agent Sher Alam Masood, APA (lower Orakzai) Atifur Rehman, District Revenue Officer Abdul Jabbar Khan, SSP (Kohat) Dr Ishtiaq Marwat and elders belonging to the two tribes.
