Power workers rally against inflation in in Lahore

LAHORE: The All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union held a rally in front of the Lahore Press Club against price hike.

Speaking on the occasion, Khurshid Ahmad, the secretary general of the union, demanded the government check price hike and recover tax from the landlords and the elite instead of following the anti-people policies of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He demanded the government implement the decision of the prime minister for raising minimum wages besides pension and salaries in the budget 2022-23. The trade union leader urged the government to order recruitment of the line staff and ensure their security when they take action against electricity theft.

It was also demanded that the government should get repaired Genco thermal power stations and build new hydel power stations to provide cheaper electricity for overcoming loadshedding instead of purchasing electricity from independent power producers.

The meeting was also addressed by Haji Younas, Osama Tariq, Naveed Dogar, Malik Zahoor, Haji Liaqat, Nosher Khan and Hassan Munir Bhatti.
