Campbell outshines Tiger

THOUSAND OAKS (California) Dec 9: New Zealand’s US Open champion Michael Campbell grabbed the first round lead at the Target World Challenge on Thursday, stealing the spotlight from host and defending champion Tiger Woods.

Campbell fired a course record-tying nine-under-par 63 to take a two-shot lead after the opening round of the $5.5m event.

Campbell led Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke by two shots with last year’s runner-up, Padraig Harrington of Ireland, another three shots back on 68.

Woods, who serves as tournament host, struggled early before finding his game on the back nine to finish with an even-par 72.
