Protest over journalist’s disappearance

Published December 10, 2005

PESHAWAR, Dec 9: The Amnesty International on Friday expressed concern over the kidnapping of tribal journalist Hayatullah Khan and called for action by human rights activists across the world in protest. The AI urged activists to send appeals to authorities, including the president of Pakistan, for immediate release of Hayatullah Khan.

Activists have been asked to express concern over reports that Hayatullah may have been kidnapped by members of a security force in an apparent attempt to suppress information about US involvement in a missile attack in N. Waziristan on Dec 1.

The AI called on the authorities to reveal the whereabouts of Hayatullah and release him immediately as he appeared to have been held for carrying out his professional journalistic duties.—Bureau Report
