Two killed in Darra clash over coal ownership

KOHAT: A clash between rival groups over collection of coal from Bostikhel mines in Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision left two tribesmen dead and four injured here on Saturday, the police said.

An official said when members of a group tried to collect coal dumped outside a mine, their rivals opened fire. Later, a shootout ensued, in which two persons were killed and four injured.

The police official said a group had placed stones to block the way of trucks carrying coal. However, when their rivals tried to remove the stones, their rivals opened fire, which was retaliated by the other group.

The dead and the injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Darra. Later, the deceased were handed over to relatives.

Azmat Afridi, a member of Bostikhel tribe, told Dawn that the dead were identified as Arkhamullah and Haroon.

The injured from both sides included Irshad Khan Afridi, Jamshed Afridi, Shoeb Noor and Mohammad Shoeb. The police have registered cases against the people involved in the firing.

Meanwhile, a young motorcyclist was killed and his companion was injured when a truck struck them on the Hangu Bypass Road on Saturday.

The city police, which impounded the truck and arrested its driver, said Mansoor Ahmed, 22, who was riding pillion, died on the spot, while Khalil was injured. The police have registered a case against the truck driver.
