Saqlain allowed to play in Champions Trophy

LAHORE, Dec 8: Pakistan hockey captain Mohammad Saqlain will be eligible to play in the Champions Trophy after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Arbitration Commission has suspended the decision of International Hockey Federation (FIH) Judicial Xommission.

The Champions Trophy will be held in Chennai, India from Dec 10 to 18.

Saqlain was banned for three matches and fined Euro 1000 for allegedly causing injury to an Australian player Craig Victory during a match in Hamburg Masters in August this year.

The IOC Arbitrary Commission had announced the decision under Article 20.3 of the FIH statues after Saqlain had filed an appeal.

Saqlain will continue playing international hockey till the next decision of the IOC Arbitrary Commission.

According to the process, Saqlain and FIH will choose three arbitrators, each, on their own choice and then will form three-member Arbitrator Commission with consensus to start the proceeding.

Meanwhile, Saqlain has expressed his satisfaction over the lifting of ban and said he would now concentrate to get best results from the Champions Trophy.
