NWFP claim U-17 trophy

PESHAWAR, Dec 8: Young Yasir Shah (15) and Suleman Khan (13) guided NWFP to grab the Inter-provincial Under-17 taekwondo trophy after securing 62 points at PSB National Sports Training and Coaching Center on Thursday.

Yasir and Suleman, the two upcoming players recorded thrilling victories in three consecutive fights of finweight and featherweights to win gold medals which enabled NWFP lift the trophy.

NWFP snatched three golds in Fin, feather and lightweights and recorded 62 points, followed by Punjab with 47 points with two golds in flyweight and bantamweight.

Balochistan finished hird winning one silver and one bronze medal. Balochistan got 38 points.

Finweight (under 45 kg): Yasir Shah (NWFP) gold; Umair Dildar (Islamabad) silver; Muhammad Fahim (Fata); Liaqat Shah (Balochistan) bronze

Flyweight (45-48kg): Rafique Anjum (Punjab) gold; Saifullah (NWFP) silver; Fida Ahmed (Balochistan); Imtiaz Ahmed (Islamabad) bronze

Bantamweight (48-51kg): Waqar Khalid (Punjab) gold; Wajid Hussain (Gilgit) silver; Khalid Naeem Balochistan); Sher Muhammad (NWFP) bronze

Featherweight (51-55kg): Suleman (NWFP) gold; Muhammad Khan (Balochistan) silver; Qutratullah (Fata) Ali Hussain (Punjab) bronze

Lightweight (55-59 kg): Mir Wais Khan (NWFP) gold; Hasan Ali (Punjab) silver; Atiq Ullah (Fata); Waseem Khan (Balochistan) bronze.—Agencies
