PESHAWAR, Dec 8: The National Commission for Human Development, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization, launched a debris removal campaign in the earthquake-affected areas of Mansehra district on Thursday, says a press release.
The campaign has been initially launched in the most affected villages Kandraila, Batang, Mori, Haveli Saeeda and Lass Mera in the Balakot area.
NCHD district general manager Riaz Hassan Khan said that the estimated number of houses in the villages was 285 from where volunteers and community members would remove the debris in 15 days.
“The community mobilizers of the NCHD will supervise the campaign in these villages and the community members involved in the work will be nominally paid,” he said.
Mr Khan said that the volunteers and the community members would dispose of debris in the nearest available locations identified by the community.
He said that in the next phase, they would remove debris from schools, roads, mosques, health facilities, shops and markets. The campaign would be later extended to rest of the affected areas.
