JUI-F leader piqued by Khursheed’s remarks

SUKKUR: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Sindh general secretary Maulana Rashid Mehmood Soomro on Sunday strongly criticised recent remarks by Federal Minister for Water Resources Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah against religious institutions and clerics.

Mr Shah was quoted as saying that government should establish better educational institutions to save children from becoming maulvis at maradis.

Speaking to the media at Sukkur Airport upon his return from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah, Maulana Soomro expressed his displeasure over Mr Shah’s remarks.

Commending the role of madaris and clerics in preaching Islam, the JUI-F leader said it was Pakistan Peoples Party, which Mr Shah belongs to, that had destroyed educational institutions and system in Sindh rendering more than 70,000 children without education. Countless schools were lying closed for want of funds, which had been misappropriated, he added.

He said hundreds of thousands of children were getting education and all relevant facilities in madaris.
