KHYBER: Bara Siyasi Ittehad (BSI) has expressed its grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Bara tehsil and called for corrective measures by the law-enforcement agencies.

At a meeting held at Bara Press Club here on Saturday, the BSI members, mostly affiliated with political parties and youth organisations, condemned the incident in which five female teachers were deprived of cash and valuables on Friday and demanded of the police to immediately trace and arrest the culprits.

They said that female teachers were never humiliated in such a way even during the last many years of militancy. “It’s a matter of shame for the entire Afridi tribe as such incidents are also against our culture and traditions,” they stated.

The participant of the meeting expressed displeasure over the rising incidents of killing and armed attacks in which seven people, including police personnel, lost their lives and questioned why some key security checkposts were abolished in parts of Bara.

Residents ask govt to deploy additional force in the area

They said that peace was restored in Bara after 14 years for which the security forces and local people had rendered sacrifices.

The meeting demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and IGP to help restore peace in Bara and deploy additional force on all the security checkposts besides ensuring patrolling of Bara roads.

A jirga of main Afridi tribes was also convened on May 8 to review the law and order situation in Bara.

ARMS SEIZED: Customs officials at Torkham border foiled an attempt to smuggle arms and ammunition from Afghanistan to Pakistan on Saturday.

Officials said that following a tip-off they intercepted a truck coming from Afghanistan and recovered four AK-47 rifles, two M4 rifles, one sniper binocular and thousands of cartridges from secret cavities of the vehicle, which was also impounded.

Officials, however, said that the truck driver escaped while taking advantage of traffic rush at the border.
