NAROWAL: The sub-inspector of Badomalhi Police Station, who was allegedly killed due to the violence of a lawyer and his accomplices in Lahore on Tuesday, was buried in his ancestral graveyard with police honours.

According to Aitzaz Bashir, the spokesman for Narowal police, SI Muhammad Salman, 59, a resident of village Bairian Koliyan of tehsil Zafarwal, was posted as investigating officer at the Badomalhi Police Station. On April 18, he appeared before the Lahore High Court (LHC) in the matter of pre-arrest bail of the accused in a case registered with his police station.

On his report, the LHC cancelled the pre-arrest bail of the accused. After the verdict, the accused party and its lawyer tortured SI Salman outside the LHC and helped the accused to escape from the spot.

The critically injured SI died on way to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore.

The Old Anarkali Police Station, on the complaint of Assistant Sub-Inspector Riaz Ahmed of the Badomalhi Police Station registered an FIR against six people, including lawyer Mazhar Abbas, Tayyab, Zafar and Qamar, on murder charge. However, no arrest has been made in the case yet.

In Narowal, the funeral prayers for SI Salman were offered at the Tayyab Saeed Shaheed District Police Lines. Gujranwala Capital Police Officer retired Capt Hammad Abid, Narowal District Police Officer Kamran Mumtaz, deputy superintendent of police, police personnel and civil society representatives attended the prayers.

Later, he was buried with full police honours in the ancestral graveyard of village Barian Koliyan.

CPO Abid, DPO Mumtaz and AC Salman Faisal Lone laid a wreath at the grave.

According to the spokesman for Narowal police, SI Salman is survived by five children and a widow. He had only one year left before his retirement.
