JUI-F holds protest against NLC at Torkham

KHYBER: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl activists staged a protest demonstration at the Torkham border here on Monday against National Logistics Cell over its alleged interference in the working of other government departments.

Led by Mufti Ejaz, a local JUI-F leader, the party activists also blocked the main road leading to the border at the Nadra point and chanted slogans against the NLC.

Speaking on this occasion, Mufti Ejaz accused the NLC staff of unlawfully stopping Afghan nationals from going back to their country on one pretext or the other, and allowing them to cross the border after taking bribe from them.

He said that the NLC had also orchestrated the removal of Nadra centre from Torkham border, which rendered thousands of daily wagers and labourers jobless as they used to move across the border on a token issued to them by Nadra.

Demanding the resumption of token system for labourers and daily wagers for revival of their lost jobs, the JUI-F leader asked the federal government to restrict NLC staff to its officially-specified responsibilities, and also refrain them from interfering into matters of immigration and customs.
