KOHAT: A jirga on Tuesday formed a 15-member committee to make the Sunnikhel mines in Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision functional.

The mines were closed in 2020 because of differences among tribesmen over composition of the profit-distribution body.

The decision was taken at a meeting attended by members of the dispute resolution council and elders of Sunnikhel tribe.

An elder, Muslim Khan Afridi, told Dawn that the jirga, called by Kohat deputy commissioner Roshan Mehsud, amicably selected a 15-member committee headed by Maulana Abdul Wahid.

He said the mines department officials had also visited the sites and estimated that Rs25 million were needed for repair of the mines.

An official said that the tribesmen had been asked to abide by the agreement.

MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED: The Riaz Mohammad Shaheed police arrested a murder suspect and two arms smugglers on Tuesday.

SHO Jamshed Ali said they arrested Saeed Munawar soon after he allegedly killed a person in Behzadi Chakarkot area.

The police officer said an FIR had been registered against the suspect.

The police also arrested two persons, namely Raheem Zeb and Shahid Ali of Swabi district during snap checking on the Indus Highway and recovered three Kalashnikovs, three pistols and 1,000 cartridges from them.

LOADSHEDDING: The consumers have complained about unscheduled electricity loadshedding, especially during Iftar, Sehr and Taraveeh.

They said repeated complaints to the Peshawar Electric Supply Company officials had been falling on deaf ears.

They claimed that while power supply to the city and adjoining areas remained suspended for hours, it continued uninterrupted to KDA Township and Cantonment.

Pesco officials said the electricity supply was suspended from Islamabad and not from the Rawalpindi Road grid station.

BUTCHERS FINED: The district administration imposed fines on butchers for selling meat of underweight animals, unhygienic conditions and absence of rate lists in Zaragaran Bazaar and Bazaar-i-Mustafa on Tuesday.

Additional assistant commissioner-I Niasar Mohammad Khalil along with director livestock conducted raids over public complaints.
