RAWALPINDI: The district administration and Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) launched an anti-encroachment drive in the garrison city to streamline traffic on main roads on Wednesday.

The anti-encroachment operation has been launched on the directives of Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal.

In a joint action, two buildings in Bagh-i-Sardaran and 13 shops in Gul Noor Market on Murree Road were sealed for violating building by-laws.

The commissioner said encroachment was the root cause of traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and directed all officials concerned to ensure that land mafia did not re-occupy the cleared areas.

“Action is being taken against those occupying state land in rural areas,” he said.
