PESHAWAR: Higher Education Commission has planned to set up quality assurance cells in the affiliated colleges of medical universities to ensure quality in the assessment of proformas in the medical and dental education programmes.
This was said by speakers at a three-day workshop on self-assessment report writing. The workshop was concluded at Khyber Medical University here on Monday.
The event was organised by quality enhancement cell (QEC) of KMU Peshawar that was attended by students from the affiliated medical, dental and nursing colleges, according to a press release.
Addressing the concluding session as chief guest, KMU Registrar Prof Mohammad Saleem Gandapur said that the workshop would enhance the capabilities of the participants.
“We have good clinicians but there is a shortage of excellent teachers. It is expected that this workshop will prove to increase the teaching skills of the participants,” he added.
He said that quality should be maintained in the teaching process. He added that further development was not only a matter of time but also a great challenge for all.
Syeda Asiya Bukhari, the director of QEC at KMU, told the participants to focus on implementing in their institutes what they had learned in the three-day workshop.
She said that writing a self-assessment report was essential for the success of any educational programme. The purpose of self-assessment is to identify vulnerabilities in the educational programme and to take measures for improvement.
Ms Bukhari said that it was welcoming that KMU was one of the leading universities in the country in terms of practicing quality assurance guidelines at par with international standards. She said that KMU was focusing on achieving the targets set by HEC in terms of quality assurance.
KMU has been organising training workshops for affiliated institutes in various fields since 2017 in the light of HEC guidelines. KMU has started a comprehensive series of workshops for the faculty of all affiliated institutes.
Prof Abdul Wahid Usmani of Jinnah Sindh Medical University Karachi also addressed various sessions of the workshop and answered the questions of the participants.
