Former MPA, nazim appear before ATC today

GUJRANWALA, Dec 1: Former MPA Mian Mazhar Javaid and UC Nazim Khalid Khan would be produced before the anti-terrorism court No 1 on Friday (today) following expiry of their physical remand, a police official said here on Thursday.

Reports said they had been arrested by Ladheywala Warriach police on Nov 21 on charges of violence and injuring an SHO at a polling station during PP-97 by-election. Police had registered a case against them under the ATA while 27 other accused had already been sent to jail on judicial remand.

DEATH SENTENCE: The ATC No 2 handed down death sentence on three-counts with Rs50,000 each to two convicts in a triple murder case here on Thursday.

The judge acquitted nine co-accused by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

According to the prosecution, convicts Muhammad Shahid and Muhammad Azam had killed Ghulam Muhammad, Saifullah and Javed over a wall construction dispute in Ahmad Nagar in Wazirabad on Nov 22, 2002.

Meanwhile, the additional sessions judge awarded death sentence to two brothers in a murder case.

While the judge declared three accused — Tariq Humayun, Asif and Irfan proclaimed offenders.

According to the prosecution, convicts Adnan and Adil had killed Khurram Shahzad, son of vegetable and fruit market commission agent association’s president Haji Muhammad Siddique, over some minor issue a few years ago.

Another additional sessions judge Wamiq Javed handed down death sentence on two-counts to a convict in a double murder case.

It is stated that convict Zafar Iqbal had killed his two rivals a few years back.

DUNG DEALERS: Two dealers were caught red-handed by a joint raiding party of police and agriculture department for selling dung without any licence in Ghakkhar Town on Thursday.

Police have sent Munir Hashmi and Muhammad Bashir to jail after registration of a criminal case against them.
