Heirs of terror victims get compensation cheques

\BAJAUR: Provincial minister for social welfare and women empowerment Anwarzeb Khan on Saturday handed over compensation cheques of Rs7.3 million to the families of 107 victims, who were killed either in natural disasters or terrorism-related incidents in the Bajaur district.

The cheques were given at a ceremony held at the Jirga Hall in Civil Colnoy, Khar.

Deputy commissioner Iftikhar Alam and Nawagai tehsil council chairman Dr Khalilur Rahman were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Anwarzeb Khan said the provincial government would provide compensation to the families of all those, who had either died in natural disasters or terrorism-related incidents.

He said the provincial government’s compensation policy had also covered the entire tribal districts following their merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mr Zeb, who also belongs to Bajaur, said the provincial government was making all-out efforts to bring the tribal districts on a par with the developed regions of the province.

He called the recent approval of a university for Bajaur a proof of the provincial government’s commitment towards the tribal districts’ uplift.

He added that construction work on the varsity would start soon.

The minister gave away way compensation cheques to families of the victims.
