PESHAWAR: Speakers at a seminar here on Thursday said that breast cancer was turning into epidemic in the country.

The seminar was jointly arranged by Khyber Medical University and Public Health Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The deputy speaker of provincial assembly, Mahmood Jan, was chief guest on the occasion.

Speakers said that one in eight women was facing threat of developing breast cancer. They added that lack of awareness, ignorance and other related factors were leading to rising number of cases.

In his speech, Mahmood Jan said that timely detection of breast cancer could save many precious lives. He also directed the relevant authorities to prepare PC-I for early breast cancer detection programme of the province.

He said that provincial government included treatment of cancer at Irnum hospital in Sehat Card scheme.

Oncologist Dr Safora Shahid briefed the participants about the breast cancer, its causes and treatment.

Dr Saima Abid briefed the audience about PHA and the efforts so far made to improve the breast cancer research in the country.
