BAHAWALPUR: The Uch Sharif police on Tuesday registered a case against eight people including parents for poisoning a woman to death in the name of honour.

Asma Bibi was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her father Abdul Latif’s house at Wahi Mochian village. The family was busy in burial arrangements when a team of the Nowshehra Jadid police, on a tip-off, raided the place and foiled the attempt to bury the woman.

The police officials took possession of the body and sent it to the Mubarakpur health centre for postmortem examination. Police received interim postmortem report through which they learnt that Asma Bibi had been administered poison.

Police interrogated Abdul Latif who claimed that Asma Bibi married Muhammad Imran despite the opposition of his son who left the house in rage. After nine months, he said, his son returned home and admonished his sister Asma who took poison in a fit of frustration.

The Nowshehra Jadid police registered a murder case against Latif and his wife Sakina, woman’s uncle Habib, his son Abdul Sattar, her father-in-law Hashim Hussain and his wife Kaniz Mai.
