Back At The Movies Again

Nothing can be more heartening for cine-goers than to know that new Pakistani films will soon be released. The pandemic had put a dampener on their spirits over the last two years because movies weren’t allowed to be screened in cinemas. Recently, within a span of a few days, two trailer launches and one film release have happened in the Sindh capital —Dum Mastam, Parde Mein Rehne Do and Ishrat Made in China, respectively. This is definitely a good sign. Now it’s (vaccinated) movie lovers’ duty to pack cinema halls like sardines so that the loss that’s been incurred in the no-show period could be somewhat recovered. Noble thought, hai na!

Love for Lupita

The world of the internet buzzed last week when it was reported that Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years A Slave, Black Panther) was in Karachi to attend the wedding of a friend. A picture of her at the beach with a makai (corn) pushcart in the background was put up on Instagram by someone as well as one of her at the wedding; it immediately got the attention of Pakistani showbiz lovers, especially the ‘burger types’. It was also reported that she danced her heart out at the wedding. Cool! And we’ve heard she danced like a happy panther.

Shattering Ambitions

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan is an octogenarian with the heart of a… well, let’s not put a number on it… young man. His recent Insta post has become the talk of India’s Tinseltown, in which he is seen smashing a glass with his foot — it’s a post-shatter picture, so we’re guessing he did it with his foot. Not just that, he captioned the photo: “After 53 years and age 80, there are some things that never change… action!” Hmmm… After breaking the glass ceiling by working in Pink, this ain’t nothing for you, Big B.

Justice Prevails

The entire country felt that justice was done when Zahir Jaffer, the killer of Noor Mukadam, was given a death sentence by a court of law. Members of the showbiz community, as is the case these days, immediately came up with their reactions on social media to the verdict, saying that Zahir J finally got what he deserved. They included, among others, Mahira Khan, Ushna Shah, Osman Khalid Butt, Mawra Hocane and Samina Peerzada. Indeed, uncompromised justice is the first prerequisite for a society to move forward.

Abandon Hope, All Ye…

It’s been quite a while since Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West, the musician now known as Ye (no one knows what he’ll be known as in times to come). On February 23, she filed more documents in the Los Angeles Superior Court, arguing that, by changing his name, her former partner is delaying things, trying to alter the prenuptial agreement and is “causing emotional distress” to her. If that’s the case, it’s really bad. Kanye W, sorry, Ye is clearly not keeping up with the Kardashians.

Together Again

In 2017, Hollywood stars Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor parted ways after 17 years of marriage. Five years later, on February 22, 2022 to be precise, it transpired that the two were back together. How come? Well, because of the pandemic. According to Ben S, “Over the course of time, it evolved. We were separated and got back together and we’re happy about that. It’s been really wonderful for all of us. Unexpected, and one of the things that came out of the pandemic.” He added that what makes a marriage strong is to respect the ways that partners are similar and the ways they are different. Alright! We’re happy at least something good came out of the coronavirus.
