Nurses among 37 booked in Khairpur

KHAIRPUR, Nov 28: Thirty-seven people, mostly employees of the health department, were booked for blocking a road and pelting police with stones on Sunday evening. Khairpur B-section police station SHO Abdul Samad Bullo lodged an FIR against seven nurses – Razia Memon, Shahnaz, Wakeela, Bela, Farzana, Zahida and Rukhsana – and other health department employees and Qasim Solangi, Khuda Bux Solangi, Rahim Bux Solangi, Sikandar Shaikh, Abdul Rahim Solangi, Pir Bux Katohar and Saeed Khokhar.

After the registration of the FIR, nursing and paramedical staff and office employees of the health department boycotted their duties and observed a token strike.

Employees of the office of the EDO, health, and paramedical staff of rural health centres and basic health units in the district also boycotted their work.

The Sukkur DIG held a meeting with the DPO, DCO and doctors at the circuit house and recorded their statements about the nurses’ strike.

The meeting formed a committee, comprising the DDO, revenue, DSP, city, and Dr Mohammad Bachal Memon, to hold an inquiry into the matter.

It also decided that no action would be taken on the basis of the FIR lodged against nurses and other paramedical staff.

After the meeting, DPO Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh and DCO Qazi Shahid Parvez visited the Civil Hospital and met the staff observing strike.—BoC
