Pakistan has reported 5,830 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, down from 6,047 a day earlier.

However, 42 more people succumbed to the virus, marking the highest daily death toll since October 6 when 46 fatalities were confirmed.

The national positivity rate stands at 9.8 per cent.

The countrywide breakdown is as follows:

• Sindh: 1,419 cases, 9 deaths
• Punjab: 1,463 cases, 16 deaths
• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 1,589 cases, 14 deaths
• Balochistan: 56 cases
• Islamabad: 754 cases
• Gilgit-Baltistan: 31cases, 1 death
• Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 518 cases, 2 deaths
