PESHAWAR, Nov 25: Teh Peshawar-Kohat road remained closed for vehicular traffic for about two hours on Thursday due to heavy firing between two groups in the Darra Adamkhel area, residents of the area told Dawn. The exchange of fire took place between the gang of Amir Said alias Charg wanted by the NWFP police in cases of heinous crimes, and the family of Hussain Shah in Qasimkhel village near the Friendship Tunnel.

Sources told this correspondent that Amir Said and Hussain Shah had been aganist each other since an incident last year when Amir Said had stopped Hussain Shah from cultivating crops in the village.

The sources said that Assistant Political Agent Naeem Anwar Sadozai had recently held a jirga and tried to persuade Amir Said and Hussain Shah to resolve the dispute.

INQUIRY: The NWFP police chief has ordered an inquiry against a superintendent of police in Swabi, who has been accused by his senior officer of corruption and misconduct.

The SP (investigation), Mohammad Akhtar Nawaz, has been made officer on special duty and asked to report to the Central Police Office here, said an official spokesman.

DIG Mardan range Dr Salman had lodged a complaint with Provincial Police Officer Riffat Pasha against the SP, seeking an inquiry against him, said police spokesman Mohammad Riaz Khan.
