Man gets life sentence in drug case
PESHAWAR: A local court on Saturday sentenced a man to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs500,000 in a narcotics trafficking case.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Saima Asim pronounced that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Waheed Khan, and the evidence on record connected him with the commission of the offence.
The court ordered that in case of non-payment of fine the convict would have to undergo another six months imprisonment.
The court declared an absconding co-accused in the case, Sarzameen, as proclaimed offender and issued his perpetual arrest warrants.
Matani police had arrested the convict on July 30, 2019, while he was travelling in a vehicle, and recovered huge quantity of opium and charas from him, which were concealed in secret cavities of the vehicle.
An FIR was registered against him under Section 9-C of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act.
The state prosecutor contended that the accused was caught red-handed while smuggling narcotics in huge quantity. He stated that the evidence on record clearly proved his involvement in the crime.
He argued that the witnesses had also deposed against the accused, whereas the chemical examination report of the seized contraband also supported the prosecution’s case.
