Founding chairman of UoP journalism dept dies

PESHAWAR: Senior journalist and founding chairman of the department of journalism and mass communication, University of Peshawar, Hafiz Sanaullah passed away here on Friday at 76.

His funeral prayer was held at Qayyum stadium attended by a large number of people, including journalists and teachers.

The veteran journalist remained the bureau chief of the state-run English daily, The Pakistan Times and the station manager of the Pakistan Press International (PPI).

He was awarded a presidential award in recognition of his services in the field of journalism.

Hafiz Sanaullah launched his own newspaper, The Frontier Star from Peshawar, after retirement from the department of journalism.

Minister for local government and rural development Faisal Amin Gandapur expressed deep sense of shock and sorrow over the demise of Hafiz Sanaullah, also the president of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In his condolence message, the minister paid homage to late Hafiz Sanaullah for his outstanding journalistic contributions.

Mr Gandapur prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family.
