Two felons escape police lockup

NAROWAL: Two criminals escaped the lockup of a Sialkot police station after breaking the wall.

District Police Officer Omar Saeed Malik suspended the SHO and four other policemen from service and ordered registration of a case against three of them for dereliction of duty.

Khurram Shahzad Malik, a spokesperson for the Sialkot district police, said Muhammad Salman and Murtaza Ali escaped the Motra police custody on Thursday night by breaking the outer wall of the lockup. DPO Omar Saeed Malik took notice of the incident and suspended SHO Ehsanullah Tipu, ASI Ansar Ali, Muharrar head constable Muhammad Afzaal, naib muharrar Mudassar Shahzad and constable Muhammad Akram from service.

Later, police registered a case against ASI Ansar Ali, Mudassir Shahzad and Akram. The DPO constituted teams headed by SP Investigation Farooq Amjad and having IT and technical experts including those from the CIA to arrest the fugitives.

The spokesperson quoted the DPO as having said the officers found negligent in their duties did not deserve any leniency. He said strict action would be taken against those responsible for the jailbreak.

ARREST: The Sialkot police claim to have arrested two persons who allegedly killed a known Na’at reciter.

Sohail Qadri was at a sweet shop at Shahabpura the other day when assailants came there and shot at him. Qadri was severely injured and was taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital of Sialkot but he breathed his last on the way. The Hajipura police registered a case against suspects.

The police spokesperson said the DPO formed raiding teams headed by SP Investigation Farooq Amjad to arrest those involved in the murder of 22-year-old Sohail Qadri.

DSP City Circle Rana Nadeem Tariq and DSP Legal Qaiser Amin Butt arrested the suspects within 48 hours of the incident by using modern technology. Police shifted the suspects to an unknown location for interrogation.
