SUKKUR, Nov 24: Five people were killed and four others were injured in two incidents in the Jacobabad district on Thursday. In Budhal Shah Mohalla of Garhi Khairo, Mujahid Hussain Shaikh and his friend, Asghar Umrani, were going home when some people shot them dead. Two other people were injured in the firing.
According to area people, the incident was the result of a matrimonial dispute.
Mir Jeeand Jamali, his two nephews and others were going to Garhi Khairo when some people opened indiscriminate fire on their car on the Garhi Khairo-Shahdadkot link road. Mr Jamali and his nephews Wazir Ali and Shabbir Ali were killed on the spot and Israr Rind and Deedar Jalbani were injured.
The injured were taken to a hospital in Garhi Khairo.
Police claimed that the incident was the result of an old enmity.
Police registered a case. However, no arrest had been made till the filing of this report.
Strike: Traders belonging to the Hindu community observed a shutter-down strike and staged a sit-in at the Ghotki bypass on Thursday morning to protest against the killing of a boy, Veero, by some people on Wednesday night.
They blocked the Ghotki bypass for one hour.
Ghotki TPO Yar Mohammad Rind along with a police party reached the spot and held talks with the protesters. On his assurance that the killers would soon be arrested, the traders ended the blockade.
Veero, son of Cheto Mal, was on the way home from a temple when some armed people had tried to kidnap him. On his resistance, the armed men had shot him dead and fled.
HAJ FLIGHTS: The first Haj flight carrying over 100 pilgrims will depart from Sukkur to Jeddah via Karachi on Dec 31.
DCO Shafique Ahmed Khoso stated this while presiding over a meeting to discuss arrangements for Hajis at his office, according to a press note issued here on Tuesday.
He said that as many as 451 pilgrims would depart from Sukkur airport by four flights and the process would continue up to Jan 3, 2006.
He said District Nazim Nasir Hussain Shah would see off pilgrims of the first Haj flight and that the post Haj flight operation starting from Feb 10, would continue up to Feb 14.
The DCO asked officials concerned to ensure provision of facilities to Haj pilgrims so they should not face any inconvenience.
