GUJRAT: Police on Saturday recovered a newborn hours after he went missing from a ward of the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital.

Dr Abid Ghauri, the medical superintendent of ABSTH, said a baby boy was born to Nasreen Bibi of Mehmda area and the newborn disappeared from the ward after few hours. He said police and district administration were informed about the incident.

A team of the city police traced a suspected woman through the footage of the closed-circuit television cameras installed in the hospital within a couple of hours of the incident. They arrested Shahida, a resident of Chodowal village, and recovered the newborn. Police registered a case against the suspect and started investigation.

COLLEGE SEALED: Sara-i-Alamgir Assistant Commissioner Ahsan Mumtaz Gondal on Saturday sealed a private college when one of its faculty members was found unvaccinated during an inspection visit.

The AC, along with a team, paid a visit to a private college and found a faculty member without vaccination against Covid. He sealed the college and asked the administration to ensure vaccination of all staff and students and submit a certificate to have the order reversed.

The AC also warned the managements of banquet halls, petrol stations, commercial plazas, restaurants, markets and educational institutions to not allow entry to unvaccinated people in their respective premises otherwise strict action would be taken against the violators.

Gas Compressors: The local administration has constituted a team to launch a campaign against the use of gas compressors in restaurants.

Installation of gas cylinders in the vehicles being used for the pick and drop of students will also be checked.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Khurram Shahzad while chairing a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at his office constituted a team headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance Zaheer Liaquat Baig and comprising senior officers of Road Transport Authority, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, civil defence and police which would pay surprise visits to the restaurants to check the use of gas compressors as there are complaints of illegal use of such compressors by the restaurant owners.

The team has also been tasked to take action against the use of gas cylinders in the students pick and drop vehicles.

Another team was constituted under Additional Deputy Commissioner General Afzal Hayat Tarrar to launch an action for the removal of encroachments along the route of Bhimbher storm water channel. Gujrat Assistant Commissioner Faisal Abbas Mangat, executive engineer of irrigation department, officials of police and special branch are members of the said committee.
