Plan to provide free treatment

PESHAWAR, Nov 23: Provincial Health Minister Inayatullah Khan has directed the authorities concerned to chalk out a plan to provide free treatment to poor patients suffering from dangerous diseases. He was presiding over a meeting of the Endowment Fund Committee held at the health secretariat on Tuesday. MPA Dr Mohammad Salim, Health Services Director-General Dr Jalilur Rehman and other members of the committee attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed income-generating projects under which MRI and CT scan machines would be installed at Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar at a cost of Rs90 million by the end of March next year, which would generate a net profit of Rs800,000 per month.

The meeting also discussed plans to invest the available funds in some income generating projects and utilizing a portion of the amount to provide relief to deserving patients.

A committee, headed by the additional secretary health and Haroon Siddiqi, journalist Rahimullah Yusufzai and medical superintendent of the Hayatabad Medical Complex as its members, was constituted to identify venues for investment and chalking out a strategy for providing services to needy patients.—Correspondent
