Senate body condemns Sangla Hill incident

ISLAMABAD, Nov 22: Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights on Tuesday condemned the torching of two churches and one school in Sangla Hill last week.

The Senate body formed a three-member sub-committee under Khalid Ranjha to find out the actual facts behind the incident.

A meeting of the committee in Parliament House under the chairmanship of Senator S.M. Zafar took serious note of torching of the Christian community buildings and said the matter would be taken up at appropriate levels.

The committee also discussed the issue of providing a gate in Hayatabad Phase VII and the home secretary NWFP told the meeting that a committee had been constituted which would present its report within three weeks.

The committee also discussed the Sonia Naz rape case. Additional AIG Punjab said on the directives of the Supreme Court investigations were underway and challan had been presented before the court.

Opposition leader Mian Raza Rabbani raised the issue of keeping MPA Zahid Bhurghari in police custody.
