GUJRANWALA, Nov 22: Differences have surfaced in PML-N ranks over nominations for naib nazims, Dawn learnt here. Reports said the ARD had fielded candidates for nazims of union councils, towns and the district from PPP while it had been decided that naib nazims would be nominated from the PML-N after consultations.
But the PML-N leaders, ex-federal minister Ghulam Dastagir Khan and former provincial minister Barrister Usman Ibrahim, reportedly fielded Javed Gujjar and Shafiqul Hassan for Qila Dedar Singh town naib nazim slot, respectively and both were supporting their candidates.
As a result of which nominations for Aroop, Nandipur, Khiali Shahpur, Kamoki, Wazirabad, Naushera Virkan towns and the district could not be finalized. The Dastagir group had hinted that candidates would be nominated unanimously after consulting with ARD’s component parties. But the Usman Ibrahim group was against consultations with the ARD and was of the view that the party should make nominations by itself.
However, the PPP leaders were reluctant to comment over the issue.
PR booking office: The sole booking office at Wazirabad railway station was working without a proper building as the old one was closed down due to its dilapidated condition.
Wazirabad was a busy railway junction, from where passengers board on trains to Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sialkot and Faisalabad etc.
In the absence of any proper building, the booking services are being carried out in the corridor between the platform No 1 and 3, which was causing problems for the passengers, who have to often stand in long queues to buy tickets.
The passengers have demanded that the railways authorities concerned should provide a proper building for the booking office to facilitate the passengers in getting tickets conveniently.
They also demanded that the number of booking counters be also increased.
