Kharian PML president quits party

GUJRAT, Nov 21: PML’s Kharian city president Chaudhry Nasir Chapar advocate has quit the party owing to his differences with some top politicians. At a press conference here, Mr Chapar announced that he was no more with the PML and that he had dispatched his resignation from the city presidentship to the PML high command.

He said that he was not joining hands with any other party and vowed to continue politics independently. The Kharian city comprised only one union council. The late Chaudhry Asghar of the Shujaat group had been elected its first nazim in March 2001 elections. The nazim, however, died some months before the local elections in August last.

The Chaudhrys had allotted the nazim ticket to the wife of the late Chaudhry Asghar. Nasir Chapar also wanted to get the ticket but, on refusal, he filed his nomination as candidate for MNA Rahman Naseer Marala.

District Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Husain and MNA Chaudhry Wajahat Husain had met Chapar at his residence in Kharian to convince him to withdraw from the elections. At that time, he announced his withdrawal in favour of Begum Asghar. But he contested the elections and lost it with a margin of around 600 votes.

Requesting anonymity, sources said that Mr Chapar had quit the PML with the consent of MNA Rahman Naseer Marala.
