FAISALABAD, Nov 21: Two candidates are in the run for the slot of city district naib nazim. Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has fielded former MNA Mian Amjad Yaseen, husband of sitting MNA Rifaat Amjad, for the slot. Punjab Minister and party’s Secretary-General Chaudhry Zeheeruddin Khan along with other parliamentarians is vigorously campaigning for Mian Amjad Yaseen.
Sheikh Muhammad Yousaf is claiming support of PPP and PML-N and launching his campaign against the ruling party nominee. However, none of the leaders of the mainstream opposition parties have so far announced support to Sheikh Yousaf.
Meanwhile, scores of candidates are contesting for naib nazim seats of Lyallpur, Madina, Iqbal, Jinnah, Samundri, Tandlianwala, Jaranwala and Chak Jhumra towns.
JINNAH TOWN: Losing candidate Ali Adnan Tariq has claimed that development schemes will be approved on his recommendations instead of the elected Jinnah Town Nazim, Shahzad Malik.
Speaking at a news conference here on Monday, Mr Tariq claimed that the provincial government had assured him full support and backing in the official working of the town.
He has asked the nazims and councillors to submit their schemes to him so that they could be forwarded to the provincial government for approval.
He said the government officers of all the departments had been asked to cooperate with him in this regard.

Reports said Abbas, Ashiq, Zahid and Ramzan tried to take away some animals from the outhouse of a villager, but they were intercepted by the area people. The gangsters opened fire on villagers which was retaliated as a result of which they sustained injuries and were handed over to police.
