India to release 26 Pakistanis today

NEW DELHI, Nov 17: India will release another 26 Pakistani civilian prisoners on Friday as part of the continuing confidence building measures between the two countries. The Pakistan High Commission has verified the nationalities of these prisoners who have all completed their prison terms. The prisoners will be handed over to Pakistani authorities at Wagah border.

Of the 26 Pakistani prisoners, 11 were lodged in Gujarat jails, five in Rajasthan, and three in Jammu and Kashmir, two each in Delhi and Punjab and one each in Haryana, Maharashtra and Nagaland.

The decision follows an agreement between India and Pakistan during the second round of home secretary-level talks between the two countries on August 29-30. —Online
