HYDERABAD, Oct 15: A doctor of the Aga Khan Hospital on Monday has verified before the Third Additional District Judge that from Jan 26, 1994 to Feb 22, 1994, Nadeem Omer, a local leader of the Mohajir Quami Movement, was admitted in the hospital for treatment of his injuries due to a bomb blast.

The doctor made this statement before the court in response to two court notices, requiring him to appear and verify whether the accused was admitted in the hospital as being claimed by him.

On October 6, the Third Additional District Judge had repeated notices to doctors of the Aga Khan Hospital to appear before the court along with the history record of Nadeem Omer to certify whether he had been admitted in their hospital at the time of the bomb blast cases registered against him.

The order was passed by the court on an application filed by Omer through his lawyer, Zahoor A. Baloch under section 265-K CrPC (acquittal application).

It was to be decided within one week after its hearing under the directives of Mr. Justice Zia Pervaiz of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench.

The SHC had passed the order on three separate criminal miscellaneous applications on Sept 9 after the court was moved by the MQM leader.

The three cases were lodged by then MPAs of the Mutahidda Quami Movement, accusing Nadeem-ul-Islam, the zonal organizer of the Mohajir Quami Movement, his party colleagues, Riaz Qureshi, Nadeem Umer, Tariq Kheer Wala, Asif Ali Kekra, and 13 others of attacking the Mutahidda Quami Movement (MQM) zonal office at Bhai Khan Ki Chari.

According to the certificates produced by Umer along with his application on Jan 1, the medical director and associate dean clinical affairs, Aga Khan University Hospital, Dr Mohammad Khursheed certified that the accused/applicant was admitted to the hospital on January 26, 1994 and was discharged on February 22, 1994.
