TOBA TEK SINGH: A young shepherd allegedly murdered a minor boy to grab his goats worth Rs50,000 at Chak 322-JB, Shahzada, on Thursday.

According to the first information report (FIR), registered by complainant Muhammad Tariq, his 10-year-old son Muhammad Abbas went with Muhammad Junaid to graze his six goats worth Rs 50,000 in the fields a few kilometers away from the village. The suspect overpowered Abbas and murdered him with a sharp knife.

When Abbas did not return home, Tariq contacted Junaid who claimed that he had gone to the city and his son had returned to the village. However, the body of the deceased was later found near the railway track. When police took the suspect into custody, he confessed to killing Abbas and selling his goats to a butcher in the city against Rs50,000.

CRUSHING: The management of the Kashmir Sugar Mills has announced starting crushing from Nov 18.

A press release said the mills would not purchase the varieties of sugarcane banned by the government.

Meanwhile, the district sugar cess committee meeting was told on Thursday that the road construction schemes worth Rs18m would be approved by it on the proposals of each MNA and MPA of the district from sugar cess funds.

The meeting was presided by the committee chairperson and provincial women development minister Begum Ashfa Fatyana.
