PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has directed the relevant authorities to take ‘result-oriented’ steps to ensure the smooth execution of the proposed Surizai housing scheme in the provincial capital.

He issued the directions during a high-level meeting held here on Thursday regarding the Surizai housing scheme to be launched under the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme.

According to a statement issued here on Friday, the meeting discussed the matters related to the project with a special focus on the issues impeding progress on the project, and took decisions about their resolution.

Provincial housing minister Dr Amjid Ali, special assistant to the chief minister Kamran Bangash, chief secretary Dr Kazim Niaz, inspector general of police Muzzam Jah Ansari, additional chief secretary Shahab Ali Shah, senior member of the Board of Revenue Syed Zafar Ali Shah, principal secretary to the chief minister Amjad Ali Khan, commissioner of Peshawar division Riaz Mehsud, and other relevant high-ups attended the meeting.

Says result-oriented steps should be taken for smooth work

Briefing about various aspects of the project, the meeting was informed that Surizai housing scheme has been planned over 8,500 kanals of land and is being established under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme.

A memorandum of understanding has already been signed between the Pakistan Housing Authority and Provincial Housing Authority for the implementation of the project. The project will consist of around 16,000 grey structure units, which will be offered to government employees and other people.

The chief minister said that the Surizai housing scheme was a mega initiative under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme, and the provincial government wanted to complete it at all costs, so all stakeholders would have to play their respective role for the purpose.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan was working for the well-being of the poor and vulnerable segments of society.

Mr Mahmood said that the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme was a ‘practical’ step towards the accomplishment of the prime minister’s vision for the welfare of the common man.

“For the first time in the history of the country, this government launched development and welfare projects for the people of the poor and middle classes,” he said.

The chief minister said that the provincial government not only supported the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan for the well-being of the people but also took practical steps in all sectors of economy for the purpose.

He added that a number of housing schemes had already been launched in the province under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme, whereas work on other various projects, including the Surizai housing scheme, was in progress.

Mr Mahmood said that under a well-devised strategy, his government was working to provide housing facilities and employment opportunities to the people in the province by boosting the construction and housing sectors.
