Balochistan to launch strategic plan for lady health workers

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has decided to launch a five-year strategic plan for lady health workers (LHWs) keeping in view the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

This was stated by Health Secretary Aziz Jamali while speaking at a seminar held at a local hotel on Wednesday.

The federal health director general, Balochistan Health DG Dr Nasir Bugti, LHW Programme Provincial Coordinator Dr Samiullah Kakar, and representatives of UNICEF, WHO and UNFPA also spoke at the seminar.

The LHWs programme will be aligned with universal health coverage to achieve the millennium development goals.

The speakers said as LHWs were playing a vital role on the preventive side of the health department and they were the backbone of all interventions, therefore without their active participation, SDGs were not achievable.

Dr Samiullah Kakar said that the LHWs would play their role in achieving the SDGs targets as they were already participating in various programmes to convey the health care messages to the community.
