HYDERABAD, Nov 11: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has banned construction of multi-storey buildings and commercial plazas on residential plots in the municipal areas of Hyderabad.
He was speaking at a meeting with the officers of HDA at his office on Thursday. All sectional heads attended the meeting.
The nazim directed the Building Control Department of the HDA to ensure proper implementation of the rules of Building Control.
He said the district government was giving top priority to the safety of the citizens.
Mr Jamil said that previously builders had constructed residential and commercial plazas on small residential plots without the facilities of car parking, water supply and sewerage.
They had not even followed their own drawing plans, the nazim said.
He said the illegal activity had posed threats to the lives and properties of innocent people and created administrative problems for the government.
The district nazim said the violation of rules had also created traffic problems for the people.
He warned that no illegal construction of a building would be tolerated and it would be demolished immediately to set example for others.
Mr Jamil directed the Building Control Department to enforce the building control rules and inspect buildings during their construction.
He directed the HDA to work on establishing a crises management cell to handle any disaster in the city.
The nazim said that a comprehensive report about dangerous buildings in the city be prepared with recommendations to tackle the problem. He said bogus housing schemes were also a menace to the society.
Meanwhile, Mr Jamil while holding a meeting with the police administration of the district expressed concern over the proliferation of narcotics and liquor in the city.
He directed the Hyderabad DPO to eliminate manufacturing, marketing and use of narcotics.
The nazim made it clear that no activity causing harm to people would be allowed in the city.
