Privilege motion against CPO for ‘misbehaviour’ with MPA

FAISALABAD: A ruling party MPA has submitted a privilege motion against the city police officer on the allegation of misbehaving with him over phone.

On the contrary, police claim that the MPA wants posting of an SHO of his choice which has been turned down by CPO Dr Muhammad Abid.

The MPA said that on Sept 30 last, he called the

CPO for a public interest work but the officer instead of listening to him rudely disconnected the call saying he did not like my (MPA’s) way of talking, the privilege motion reads.

Later, he repeatedly tried to contact the CPO but he did not bother to attend his call, the MPA claimed. He said the officer had violated his constitutional and legal rights and requested the Punjab Assembly speaker to allow him to table this motion and forward it to the privilege committee.

Sources told Dawn that political interference in the police affairs was increasing with every passing day and this is borne out by transfers and postings during the last few months. They said those serving in the police stations were working under uncertain conditions and policemen had failed to devise a strategy to control the crime rate.

They said instead of taking up the matter as a privilege motion, an independent committee comprising officials and parliamentarians be formed to dig out the reality.

Privilege motion would not stop interference in the police matters and only an independent committee could suggest a policy to tackle the issue.

This correspondent sent queries to the MPA on Oct 4 but he did not respond.
