BAP core committee concerned over crisis in Balochistan

QUETTA: The core committee of the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) expressed serious concern over a political crisis in the province and the situation created due to anger of the party’s parliamentary group and its demand for the resignation of Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani.

An emergency meeting of the core committee presided over by BAP founder Senator Saeed Ahmed Hashmi discussed the situation created by the resignation of Mr Alyani from the office of president of the party and its organisational issues and political situation of the province.

Chief Organiser of the party Mir Jan Mohammad Khan Jamali, Sardar Mohammad Saleh Bhootani and Nawabzada Tariq Hussain Magsi — other members of the core committee — also attended the meeting.

The marathon meeting of the core committee which continued till late in the evening, reviewed the situation arising out of the resignation of Mr Alyani from his party office and decided to convene a meeting of executive committee of the party in the next few days to finalise the date for holding election of the party’s central and provincial bodies in the BAP’s general council so the new cabinet of the party could maintain continuity party’s vision and thinking.

While expressing deep concern over the political crisis in the province caused by the animosity of the BAP parliamentary group over the past few days and the uneasiness among the party workers, the meeting decided to take immediate action with the party members.

“With mutual consultation, a permanent and lasting solution to the crisis in the party and the province should be found which will have a positive impact not only on Balochistan but also on the politics of the country,” said in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Balochistan government’s spokesman Liaquat Ali Shahwani denied the reports on social media that Jam Kamal Khan Alyani had resigned from the chief ministership. “Jam Kamal Khan has not resigned from his office and all reports in this regard were baseless and fake,” he added.
