FAISALABAD, Nov 9: Sub-Inspector Abdul Rauf has been terminated from service for concealing facts while conducting investigation of a case registered against former Jaranwala SHO Jamshed Iqbal Chishti.
Police sources said former Jaranwala SHO Jamshed Chishti, along with other policemen, picked up Muhammad Aslam on March 19 last in an altercation case and kept them in illegal confinement for many days. They also implicated the suspects.
Subsequently, the victim approached the Lahore High Court, which ordered an inquiry into the illegal confinement and other charges. Maj Mubashar (retired), SSP Police Training School in Lahore was deputed to probe the matter, who found inspector Jamshed Iqbal Chishti and others guilty of crime.
The report revealed that Haji Muhammad Aslam was rounded up in a case, tortured in nude condition and disgraced publicly for filing a writ petition with the LHC against the policemen.
On the findings of the report, the Jaranwala police registered a case against SHO Chishti and other policemen under section 166, 294, 355, 409, 447, 506 and 33-K of the PPC and 155-C, 156-A, C and D of the Police Order 2002. Sub-inspector Abdul Rauf was appointed inquiry officer of this case.
Sources said the inquiry officer instead of honestly probing the case adopted delaying tactics and did not record the statement of the complainant to oblige inspector Chishti and other policemen.
After a couple of months of the registration of the case, inquiry officer Abdul Rauf declared the case as untraced and recommended its withdrawal.
The matter was brought into the notice of SP Investigation, who after a detailed inquiry dismissed sub-inspector Abdul Rauf under the Punjab Removal from Service (Special Powers) Ordinance 2000.
It may be mentioned here that Jamshed Iqbal is currently lodged in a Lahore Jail for his involvement in the Sonia Naz case.
