Grenade injures 2 constables

SIALKOT, Nov 9: Two policemen were injured in a hand-grenade attack by a notorious proclaimed offender and his two accomplices after an exchange of fire in Daska city’s congested College Road near Jamia Masjid Noor late on Tuesday night.

According to the FIR (No.683/2005), a Daska police team during patrolling signalled three motorcyclists to stop, who opened fire on the police. As the police retaliated, the suspects who were identified as PO Iftikhar alias Bichhu and his two accomplices — Zahid Qureshi and Sabir Shaikh — lobbed hand-grenade and fled firing in the air.

Constables Akhtar Butt and Nadeem were grievously injured and were shifted to a Lahore hospital. The city police have registered a case under sections 324, 353 of the PPC, 7 of ATA and other sections.

Later, the Daska police claimed to have arrested Zahid.

CASE: The Bambaanwala police on Wednesday registered a case against a prayer leader of Othiyan village (Daska) and 14 others for violating ban on misuse of loundspeaker and beating up a police team.

According to FIR, prayer leader Maulvi Muhammad Ikhlaq and 14 others, including Ejaz, Riaz, Afzal, Naveed, Arif and Shahbaz, thrashed sub-inspector Nisar Ahmad and tore the uniform of constable Muhammad Ashfaq, besides snatching a mobile phone and Rs17,000 in cash from the SI.

DROWNS: A youth drowned in the Upper Chenab Canal near Sambrial while saving a child.

Reports said Muhammad Irfan saved a child, who slipped into the canal while playing around. The body was not fished out till last reports came in.

KILLED: Three people were killed and more than 17 others injured in two accidents on the main Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala Road on Wednesday.

A factory worker was killed while more than 15 of his colleagues were injured when a bus overturned near Aadha village. The injured were admitted to different hospitals.

The Motra police have registered a case against the fleeing bus driver.

Near Jessarwala village (Daska), two motorcyclists Nawaz and Khurram Shahzad were run over and killed by a bus (LRO-4876).
