Academic dies of Covid-19

KARACHI: Prof Mohammad Usman, director of the Baqai Institute of Haematology, died of Covid-19 complications on Sunday morning. He was 45.

Prof Usman was also the chairman of the department of pathology at Baqai Medical University.

“Initially, his wife, who was vaccinated against coronavirus, got infected, and recovered. Unfortunately, Prof Usman died,” said Dr Qaiser Sajjad of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), adding that the late professor opted not to receive Covid-19 vaccine shots.

“He was a PhD in haematology and not an MBBS doctor. This is why the association hasn’t included him in the list of doctors who have fallen victim to Covid-19 in the country,” he said.
